[IN PERSON] - Semiotics and Blackout Poetry - Prof. Evripides Zantides
The workshop Semiotics and Blackout Poetry explores the interplay between written language, typography and meaning-making through the lens of erasure-based poetic expression. Semiotics, the study of signs and their interpretation, provides a theoretical foundation for understanding how language, typography and image construct meaning in both, textual, and graphic design contexts. Blackout poetry, which involves redacting portions of an existing text to reveal a new narrative, serves as a creative exercise in deconstructing and reconstructing meaning. By strategically eliminating words, participants engage in a semiotic process that challenges traditional authorship, highlights hidden narratives, and invites new interpretations of textual material. This workshop encourages critical engagement with language in respect of graphic design layout and hierarchy of information, and fosters an awareness of how meaning is shaped by both presence and absence. Through guided activities, participants will analyze the semiotic implications of their poetic choices, gaining insight into how “erasuring” functions as both an aesthetic and political act in literary and graphic design meaning.

[IN PERSON] - Creating Conceptual images with Artificial Intelligence Models - Prof. Dr. Doğan Arslan
About Workshop: This workshop focuses on transforming conceptual ideas into meaningful visuals using AI-generated imagery. Participants will develop editorial concepts on topics such as political or social issues and explore ways to visualize them effectively. Once participants finalize their ideas, they will select an AI image-generation model to create conceptual visuals suited for editorial purposes, including poster design, magazine covers, and article illustrations. We will explore both free AI models, such as Bing Image Creator and Leonardo AI, as well as paid options like Midjourney and Adobe Firefly. Participants are encouraged to experiment with any AI tools that help bring their creative visions to life.

[IN PERSON] - Packaging Design Concept Development with Midjourney - Ceyhun Akgün
About Workshop: It will be a study enriched with examples to show that artificial intelligence technologies are a process that facilitates and accelerates the work of designers, and that their productivity increases in line with the designer’s core competencies. It will be an application in which the designer will reach the result by using the packaging type, the visual theme and elements he wants to use in the packaging design in the process of process development and concept development on a planned prompt.
This project aims to develop a packaging design for personal care and cosmetics. We want to create a packaging that reflects the identity of our brand, stands out on the shelves and attracts the attention of our target audience. Our product is a face serum, body lotion, cream, shampoo, etc., and its prominent features include natural ingredients and premium. It is critical that the packaging is both aesthetic and functional; we are thinking of adopting a simple yet elegant, modern yet friendly design language.
The color palette could include: pastel shades, metallic details, natural textures. Typography should be clean, legible and in line with brand values. Sustainability is important in the choice of materials, so recyclable or biodegradable materials will be at the forefront. Basic information such as logo, product name, ingredient information and instructions for use should be clear and balanced on the packaging. Premium touches such as embossed lacquer, hot foil or matt finish can be considered as printing techniques.
